Air conditioning installation in Bexleyheath

Apex installs, services and repairs air conditioning across Bexleyheath, about 4 miles from our Dartford base. Most homes here are family houses wanting several rooms cooled and heated, so a multi-split running them from one outdoor unit is often the right fit. Olly surveys each home and quotes a fixed price in writing.

Multi-split air con for Bexleyheath family houses

Most homes in Bexleyheath are suburban houses with a back garden, which is good news for air conditioning.

The outdoor unit can sit on a rear wall or on a pad in the garden, and one larger outdoor unit can run indoor units in the lounge, the bedrooms and a loft conversion. That keeps the back of the house tidy compared with a row of separate outdoor units.

The Welling job listed below shows how far this can go: one outdoor unit running six wall units, with the kitchen on its own system because cooking adds so much heat.

The review below, from a Bexleyheath customer with a Mitsubishi Heavy Industries 7kW and 12kW set-up, mentions the awkward pipe runs in the eaves and how the house was kept clean throughout.

How much does air con installation cost in Bexleyheath?

We do not publish prices, because two houses on the same road can need very different systems. As a guide, Which? (July 2026) put a single air-to-air unit for one room at about £1,900 fitted, and a multi-unit system for a three-bed semi at about £3,700.

Selectra (October 2026) found London and the south-east run 20 to 30% above national prices, and Bexleyheath is inside the London Borough of Bexley.

What moves the price is the number of rooms, the kW size from the heat-gain calculation, the length of the pipe runs and whether the outdoor unit goes on the ground or high on a wall.

A second-floor loft room usually means a longer run than a ground-floor lounge. Our air conditioning cost guide covers each factor, and Olly's fixed written quote spells out what is included.

Photos of the room and where the outdoor unit could go are the quickest start.

Olly and Andy came to install Mitsubishi HI a 7kw and a 12kw multi-split units. Not a small job as we had 7 indoor units to hang and lots of awkward trunking /pipe runs in eves and suffixes. All in all, a very friendly and professionally installation. I am especially impressed with Olly who is very careful with the work and has a keen eye for detail - a part I highly recommend. Olly and Andy came with shoe protectors, dust sheets and mobile vacuums, keeping all things tidy and clean at all times. Not pushy and very accomodating with all our requirements. Highly recommended!

Does Bexley Council need to approve air conditioning?

For a house, usually not. Since 29 May 2025, a heat-and-cool unit on a house in England is normally permitted development, provided the outdoor unit meets the size rules and passes the MCS 020(a) noise calculation: 37 dB(A) one metre from your neighbour's nearest door or window.

Semi-detached and terraced houses are allowed one outdoor unit under these rules, which is another reason a multi-split suits so many Bexleyheath semis.

Flats and cooling-only units are different and often need an application to the London Borough of Bexley, and a flat usually needs the freeholder's consent as well. More detail is in our guide to air conditioning and planning.

Shops and offices around the Broadway

Shops, salons and offices around the Broadway usually want cooling in summer and heating in winter from one system. Indoor units can go on the wall or into a suspended ceiling, and the outdoor unit goes in a rear service yard or on a flat roof, never on the shopfront.

Commercial premises normally need planning permission for that outdoor unit, plus the landlord's consent if you rent. Systems over 12 kW also need a TM44 energy inspection at least every five years. See air conditioning for businesses for what we fit.

Questions

Air conditioning in Bexleyheath: questions

How much does air conditioning installation cost in Bexleyheath?

It depends on the number of rooms, the kW size and the pipe route, so Olly quotes after a free survey. Published UK figures give a sense of scale: Which? put one room at about £1,900 fitted and a three-bed semi multi-split at about £3,700 in July 2026, with London and the south-east usually higher. Your written quote is fixed, so it does not change on the day.

Does Bexley Council require planning permission for air con?

Not for most houses. A heat-and-cool unit is usually permitted development if it meets the size limits and passes the MCS 020(a) 37 dB(A) noise check, which we do for you. Flats, listed buildings, conservation areas, cooling-only units and shops on the Broadway can need an application to the London Borough of Bexley. We tell you which applies at the survey.

What qualifications do you need to install air conditioning?

In Great Britain, engineers who work on the refrigerant circuit need a personal F-gas certificate, and the business must hold an F-gas company certificate from an approved body. Apex holds one through REFCOM, number REF1017376, and you can look it up on the public REFCOM register. Any new electrical circuit for the system must also meet Building Regulations.

What is a normal temperature to set air conditioning at?

Somewhere around 22 to 24°C suits most people for cooling, and around 20 to 21°C for heating. Setting the cooling far below the outside temperature costs more to run and can feel chilly when you walk back in from the garden. Inverter units hold a steady temperature, so choose a setting and leave it. We show you the controls and the app at handover.
