Air conditioning in Mayfair
Commercial and residential air conditioning in Mayfair
Apex designs, installs and maintains air conditioning in Mayfair offices, galleries, shops and townhouses. Our London work includes Daikin VRV and mini VRV systems for commercial clients, the kind of multi-floor kit many Mayfair buildings need, planned around listed building rules and your working day.

Office and gallery air conditioning in Mayfair
Many Mayfair townhouses became offices in the 20th century, and the district now mixes offices, galleries, shops and hotels. A converted townhouse usually suits ducted units hidden above the ceiling, or compact cassettes, with one outdoor unit or a VRV system serving several floors.
VRV lets each room or floor run at its own temperature, which helps when a gallery space and a meeting room share a building. In a gallery we also keep airflow off the walls where work hangs, and route drains well away from displays. See commercial air conditioning for the systems we fit.
Listed buildings and the Mayfair conservation area
Westminster City Council's guide counts almost 700 listed buildings in the Mayfair conservation area, 14 of them Grade I. A listed building needs listed building consent before work starts, and commercial or cooling-only units usually need planning permission as well.
The design has to respect the building: pipe routes in existing voids, indoor units placed with care, and the outdoor plant out of sight in a lightwell, on a rear roof or in a mews. We set out the technical details at the survey so your architect or planning consultant has what the application needs. Where the outdoor unit has to go on a roof, we also check how it will be lifted into place and reached for servicing.
Not sure which unit suits your Mayfair home? A couple of photos usually settles it.

F-gas leak checks and TM44 for Mayfair businesses
Larger commercial systems carry legal duties. Under the F-gas rules, a system holding refrigerant above 5 tonnes CO2 equivalent needs regular leak checks, and many older R410A systems are over that line.
Air conditioning over 12kW in a non-domestic building also needs a TM44 inspection by an accredited energy assessor at least every five years. Apex is an F-gas certified company (REFCOM REF1017376), and our maintenance visits keep the leak-check and service records your assessor will ask to see.

Mews houses and townhouse flats
Homes in Mayfair are mostly townhouses and mews built between the early 1700s and the early 1900s, plus blocks of flats on Park Lane, Piccadilly and around the squares. A mews house often has a flat roof or rear wall that can take the outdoor unit.
Mews sit close together, so the noise check at the neighbour's nearest window often decides the exact spot. A tall townhouse can mean a long pipe run from the roof down to the lower floors, so we check it against the system's limits. Flats almost always need the freeholder's consent first.

What our customers say
Word for word from Checkatrade and Google.
From initial contact to completion of install and subsequent aftercare, my experience with Apex was top class. The install itself was done in half a day and the room was left clean and tidy - you’d not know engineers had worked there! Not often I recommend someone, but I’ve passed their details on to friends who have used them and all had the same personal and great experience.
First class service! Ollie is very knowledgeable, provided a thorough service and deep clean of all our units and fixed a leak.
Had three units installed now and cannot fault either the equipment or Apex, from the initial unbiased advice, through to installation, I have no complaints whatsoever. Would recommend to anyone
Questions
Air conditioning in Mayfair: questions
Which air conditioning brands do you install in Mayfair?
We fit Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric and Panasonic, and Airzone controls for room-by-room zoning on ducted systems. For multi-floor offices, Daikin VRV and mini VRV are systems we have fitted for London commercial clients. For a Mayfair flat or mews house, a quiet wall, floor or ducted unit from any of the three brands usually suits.
Can air conditioning give you a blocked nose?
It can feel that way, but dry air and dirty filters are usually to blame, not the cooling itself. In a busy Mayfair office, filters clog faster and dust builds up on the coils. Regular filter cleans, a yearly deep clean and a sensible setting, rather than as cold as possible, usually help. We can set a service schedule to suit.
Can a listed building in Mayfair have air conditioning?
Often, yes, but you need listed building consent and the design has to respect the building. That usually means hidden pipe routes, carefully placed indoor units and an outdoor unit out of sight. With almost 700 listed buildings in the Mayfair conservation area, this is a common situation. We give you the technical details the council will want.
Can I get air con in a Mayfair flat?
Usually, if there is somewhere legal for the outdoor unit and the freeholder agrees. Most leases need consent for anything fixed outside, and flats are not covered by permitted development, so Westminster will normally expect a planning application. Roofs and lightwells are the usual spots. We check the lease position, access and pipe route at the survey.
